Apple Music Voice Plan draws commoditized content deeper into Apple's ecosystem
In December, we looked at consumer response to device/service bundle plans launched by Apple and Google. One difference between the two is that Google has gone all-in on a device-content bundle while Apple has not, instead bundling up its growing portfolio of media-centered services in Apple One.
Apple’s low share in the smart speaker market moves the emphasis of Voice Plan user interaction to other devices.
In potentially bolstering that bundle, last October Apple launched a significantly lower-priced tier to the oldest of its present-day content services. The Apple Music Voice Plan forgoes modern premiums such as spatial and high-resolution audio, but also some long-established music service staples such as offline access and even playlists, letting Siri take the wheel to call up songs, albums, and a beefed-up selection of playlists on demand. Which consumers might be ready to give up some features to let Siri play deejay?
